GULLIBLE'S TRAVELS - THE PROCESS

Little is known about tapestry now and yet its significance survives as a linguistic metaphor. I am interested in the meaning it imparts when intersected with other mark making processes. and am thus focused on the semiotics of simulating this ancient technology in digital technology.

I consider myself to be a digital "folk artist" discovering the computer as a drawing tool. I do not borrow images. and enjoy combining my own visual work with my writing.

To construct my signature tapestry font I scanned my woven alphabet directly into the computer without using a camera as intermediary. I then manipulate and modify images and text through software that offers actual basic studio equipment: eraser, scissors, pens, ink, numerous colours, pencils, graphite, texture etc.

I print my own work using archival inks on archival paper. The prints do not have individual titles but each has a number (1 to 38) that corresponds to its place in my "Gullible's Travels" morality tale.

The full text is located in small print at the bottom of each print which are in an edition of 25.
